On the potter's wheel — Potters · The Makers
Mira watches Master Odu make a bowl on the spinning wheel in a few minutes. She writes the steps down, but her notes get muddled.
Your task
Put the wheel steps in order.
- Centring means pressing the spinning clay until it runs perfectly round in the middle of the wheel. If it is not centred, the walls come out uneven and the pot can wobble apart.
- Invented guild stories to learn from. Never try fire, hot metal, glass, blades or power tools on your own: crafts like these are learned with a trained adult.
- Every craft came from many people in many places. Nothing about you is collected.
Score
- Craft knowledge — You understood how this craft works.
- Making it well — You put the steps in a sensible order and used the right tools.
- Care for people & planet — You kept people safe and used materials wisely.
In real life
Potter's wheels have been used for over 5,000 years. Many early wheels were turned by hand or by foot; today many are electric.
Potters
The guild stories are invented, to learn from. Fire, heat, blades and tools are only for trained adults: learn these crafts with a trained adult, never at home. Nothing about you is collected; progress stays on this device.
