Three kinds of pottery — Potters · The Makers
Master Odu lines up a flowerpot, a heavy mug and a thin white cup in Little Kiln Town. They are all clay, so why are they so different?
Your task
Put each clue with the right kind of pottery.
- Simplified: different clays fired at different heats. Earthenware is fired lowest (about 1000 °C) and stays a little porous. Stoneware is fired hotter (about 1200 °C) and becomes dense. Porcelain is fired hottest (about 1300 °C) and can be thin and white.
- Invented guild stories to learn from. Never try fire, hot metal, glass, blades or power tools on your own: crafts like these are learned with a trained adult.
- Every craft came from many people in many places. Nothing about you is collected.
Score
- Craft knowledge — You understood how this craft works.
- Making it well — You put the steps in a sensible order and used the right tools.
- Care for people & planet — You kept people safe and used materials wisely.
In real life
Porcelain was first made in China more than a thousand years ago, and for centuries other countries tried to discover how.
Potters
The guild stories are invented, to learn from. Fire, heat, blades and tools are only for trained adults: learn these crafts with a trained adult, never at home. Nothing about you is collected; progress stays on this device.
