Windows that keep warm — Glassmakers · The Makers
The Embergate school is chilly in winter and the heating bill is high. Dr. Amara asks the Glasshouse for advice on the windows, three times.
Your task
Pick the wisest answer at each step.
- Glass itself lets heat through quite easily, so a single pane loses a lot of warmth. Double glazing sandwiches a thin layer of air or gas between two panes. That trapped layer slows the heat down, and the room stays warmer for less energy.
- Invented guild stories to learn from. Never try fire, hot metal, glass, blades or power tools on your own: crafts like these are learned with a trained adult.
- Every craft came from many people in many places. Nothing about you is collected.
Score
- Craft knowledge — You understood how this craft works.
- Making it well — You put the steps in a sensible order and used the right tools.
- Care for people & planet — You kept people safe and used materials wisely.
In real life
Heating and cooling buildings uses a large part of the energy people use. Better windows are one of the easiest ways to cut it, and old glass from the replaced windows can be recycled into new glass.
Glassmakers
The guild stories are invented, to learn from. Fire, heat, blades and tools are only for trained adults: learn these crafts with a trained adult, never at home. Nothing about you is collected; progress stays on this device.
