A stained-glass window — Glassmakers · The Makers
The Embergate library wants a coloured window of a lighthouse. Glazier Nadia shows you how a stained-glass window comes together.
Your task
Put the steps in order.
- A stained-glass window is many pieces of coloured glass held together by H-shaped lead strips called cames. Details like faces are painted on with special glass paint and fired so they last.
- Invented guild stories to learn from. Never try fire, hot metal, glass, blades or power tools on your own: crafts like these are learned with a trained adult.
- Every craft came from many people in many places. Nothing about you is collected.
Score
- Craft knowledge — You understood how this craft works.
- Making it well — You put the steps in a sensible order and used the right tools.
- Care for people & planet — You kept people safe and used materials wisely.
In real life
Some medieval stained-glass windows in European cathedrals are more than 800 years old and still let coloured light into the building.
Glassmakers
The guild stories are invented, to learn from. Fire, heat, blades and tools are only for trained adults: learn these crafts with a trained adult, never at home. Nothing about you is collected; progress stays on this device.
