The right wood for the job — Carpenters · The Makers
Three jobs wait in the Alderbrook workshop. The Makers of Our World game on MyLeoNes for ages 7–17; invented stories, crafts learned safely.
Your task
Choose the best wood or step each time.
- Dense hardwoods resist wear. Light softwoods are easy to cut and carry. Fresh wood holds water and must dry first.
- Invented guild stories to learn from. Never try fire, hot metal, glass, blades or power tools on your own: crafts like these are learned with a trained adult.
- Every craft came from many people in many places. Nothing about you is collected.
Score
- Craft knowledge — You understood how this craft works.
- Making it well — You put the steps in a sensible order and used the right tools.
- Care for people & planet — You kept people safe and used materials wisely.
In real life
Wood shrinks as it dries, which is why carpenters in many places stack and season planks before building.
Carpenters
The guild stories are invented, to learn from. Fire, heat, blades and tools are only for trained adults: learn these crafts with a trained adult, never at home. Nothing about you is collected; progress stays on this device.
