The hill field — Farmers · The Makers
Kofi has written notes about the new hill field at Green Acre, the one that slopes down to the stream. Makers · MyLeoNes.
Your task
Tap the notes that put the soil or the stream at risk.
- On a slope, fast rainwater picks up soil and carries it downhill. Rows that follow the contour lines slow the water and let it soak in. Plant cover and grass strips hold soil with their roots, and manure or fertiliser that washes into a stream can choke it with algae.
- Invented guild stories to learn from. Never try fire, hot metal, glass, blades or power tools on your own: crafts like these are learned with a trained adult.
- Every craft came from many people in many places. Nothing about you is collected.
Score
- Craft knowledge — You understood how this craft works.
- Making it well — You put the steps in a sensible order and used the right tools.
- Care for people & planet — You kept people safe and used materials wisely.
In real life
Farmers on steep land have built terraces and planted along contours for thousands of years, from the rice terraces of the Philippines to the stone walls of the Andes. Today they use the same ideas to protect rivers.
Farmers
The guild stories are invented, to learn from. Fire, heat, blades and tools are only for trained adults: learn these crafts with a trained adult, never at home. Nothing about you is collected; progress stays on this device.
