Food too good to waste — Farmers · The Makers
At the invented Greenvale farm, farmer Sónia has a pile of crooked carrots and some yoghurts near their date. Help Leo and Nes decide what to do.
Your task
Make the best choices.
- 'Use by' is about safety: don't eat after that date. 'Best before' is about quality: food is often still fine after it, if it looks, smells and tastes normal. Odd-shaped vegetables taste the same.
- Invented guild stories to learn from. Never try fire, hot metal, glass, blades or power tools on your own: crafts like these are learned with a trained adult.
- Every craft came from many people in many places. Nothing about you is collected.
Score
- Craft knowledge — You understood how this craft works.
- Making it well — You put the steps in a sensible order and used the right tools.
- Care for people & planet — You kept people safe and used materials wisely.
In real life
These two date labels are set by EU rules (Regulation 1169/2011). In Portugal, the 'Fruta Feia' cooperative has sold 'ugly' fruit and vegetables since 2013 to cut waste.
Farmers
The guild stories are invented, to learn from. Fire, heat, blades and tools are only for trained adults: learn these crafts with a trained adult, never at home. Nothing about you is collected; progress stays on this device.
