A bubble is not empty: it is a little space of gas held inside a liquid or surrounded by a thin film.
Gas inside a film
A bubble has gas inside and a thin liquid film around it. The film can stretch and shine, while the gas pushes gently from the inside, giving the bubble its round shape.
Why bubbles matter
Without this idea, foam and fizz look like magic or empty holes. It explains why bubbles rise, why they pop when their film breaks and why a liquid can carry gas that we cannot see on its own.
Blowing a soap bubble
1. Dip a ring into soapy water. 2. Blow gently through it. 3. A film stretches across the ring and traps air inside. 4. The bubble floats, then pops when the film becomes too thin or touches a sharp edge.
Not empty space
It is reasonable to call a bubble empty because it looks clear and light. It is actually filled with gas, usually air; the clear film is what makes its edge visible, not a solid wall.
Foam and fizz
You meet gas bubbles in fizzy drinks, bath foam, whipped cream and bread dough. In each case, gas is held in small spaces, although the liquid or soft material around the spaces may be different.
