What time is it there? — Watchmakers · The Makers
It is 12:00 noon in Lisbon on a winter day. Watchmaker Rui in the invented town of Cogsworth has to call clients in other places.
Your task
Make the best choices.
- The world is divided into time zones, so it is not the same time everywhere. In winter, mainland Portugal and Madeira use UTC+0, Spain and France use UTC+1, and the Azores use UTC−1.
- Invented guild stories to learn from. Never try fire, hot metal, glass, blades or power tools on your own: crafts like these are learned with a trained adult.
- Every craft came from many people in many places. Nothing about you is collected.
Score
- Craft knowledge — You understood how this craft works.
- Making it well — You put the steps in a sensible order and used the right tools.
- Care for people & planet — You kept people safe and used materials wisely.
In real life
Time zones were set up in the late 1800s because of railways and telegraphs. In 1884 a conference in Washington chose Greenwich, near London, as the starting line for world time.
Watchmakers
The guild stories are invented, to learn from. Fire, heat, blades and tools are only for trained adults: learn these crafts with a trained adult, never at home. Nothing about you is collected; progress stays on this device.
