Painting — colour that flows and spreads
If drawing is about lines, painting is about filling spaces with colour that flows. You dip a brush in paint and drag it across the paper, and suddenly a whole sky or sea appears in one soft sweep.
Shaping Clay — art you can hold in your hands
Not all art is flat on paper. With clay, a soft kind of mud that comes from the ground, you can make art you can pick up, turn around and hold — a real object, shaped by your own two hands.
Patterns and Prints — the same shape, again and again
Look around and you'll spot patterns everywhere — stripes on a jumper, tiles on a floor, spots on a ladybird. A pattern is simply something that repeats, and once you notice them, you can start making your own.
Cut, Stick, Make — art from bits and pieces
Some days you don't feel like drawing — and that's where collage comes in. Instead of making marks, you cut out bits of coloured paper, photos, fabric or anything flat, arrange them into a picture, and glue them down. It's art you build like a puzzle.
Art from Nature — leaves, stones and sticks
The best art supplies in the world are free, and they're lying all over the ground outside. Leaves, pebbles, twigs, petals, pine cones and shells can all be arranged into pictures and patterns — an art you make with the earth itself.
Showing Your Art — art is made to be seen
You've mixed colours, drawn, painted and made things — but a piece of art only really comes alive when someone else looks at it. Sharing your work is the last, and one of the best, parts of making art.
