What's inside
What Endangered Means — when an animal is running out
You know that some animals, like dogs and pigeons, are everywhere. But other animals have become very, very rare — so rare that only a few are left in the whole world. When that happens, we say the animal is endangered, and it needs our help before it's too late.
Losing Their Homes — the biggest danger of all
Of all the things that put animals in danger, one is far bigger than the rest: losing their home. Just like you need your house, every wild animal needs its own special place — a forest, a reef, a grassland — with all the food and shelter it depends on. And that's exactly what's disappearing.
Hunted and Taken — when animals are hunted too much
Some of the world's most magnificent animals — elephants, rhinos, tigers — ended up in danger for a very sad reason: people hunted far too many of them. Sometimes it was for meat, but often it was for one small part of the animal, like a horn or a beautiful coat, that some people wanted to sell.
Trouble in the Ocean — how the sea's animals are hurt
The ocean is so huge it can feel like nothing we do could ever hurt it — but sadly, that isn't true. Some of the most loved sea animals, like turtles, whales and dolphins, have become endangered, and a lot of the trouble comes from things that begin on land, with us.
Small but Mighty — why tiny animals matter too
When we think of endangered animals, we usually picture big, famous ones like tigers and pandas. But some of the most important animals in danger are the tiniest of all — little creatures like bees and frogs that you could hold in your hand. And it turns out that saving the small ones matters just as much.
Bringing Them Back — hopeful stories and how you help
After all the dangers, here's the most important thing to know: this is a story with hope. Again and again, animals that were nearly lost have been saved and are slowly coming back — because people decided they were worth protecting. And you can be one of those people.
