Boats around the world — Shipbuilders · The Makers
The Harbour Yard museum has four boats from far away. Curator Kai asks you to match each boat with what made it special.
Your task
Pick the right answer at each step.
- People built boats from what they had: a dugout canoe is carved from one tree trunk; a kayak was a light frame covered in animal skin; Chinese junks split their hulls into watertight compartments.
- Invented guild stories to learn from. Never try fire, hot metal, glass, blades or power tools on your own: crafts like these are learned with a trained adult.
- Every craft came from many people in many places. Nothing about you is collected.
Score
- Craft knowledge — You understood how this craft works.
- Making it well — You put the steps in a sensible order and used the right tools.
- Care for people & planet — You kept people safe and used materials wisely.
In real life
Watertight compartments, used in Chinese junks for centuries, are still used in modern ships so one leak does not sink the whole vessel.
Shipbuilders
The guild stories are invented, to learn from. Fire, heat, blades and tools are only for trained adults: learn these crafts with a trained adult, never at home. Nothing about you is collected; progress stays on this device.
