Loud and soft in one instrument — Music Through Time

Around 1700 a keeper of instruments in Florence replaced plucking with hammers, and volume became something you play. The same short phrase twice: once even, once with the middle notes leaning louder. Only the second one could have been played on Cristofori’s instrument and not on a harpsichord.
