Cooperation — Sociology, 4–6 years
Cooperation means people coordinate their actions to do something together. They can share jobs, listen and adjust their plans so the group can move forward.
What is cooperation?
Cooperation is doing something with other people while paying attention to what they need too. Each person may do a different part, but the parts fit together towards one shared result.
Why cooperate?
Some tasks are too large, heavy or complicated for one person alone. People began cooperating to build shelters, care for one another and solve problems; sharing effort can make a result possible sooner.
Building a tower
Mia brings the blocks, Leo makes a wide base and Noor checks whether the tower leans. When it wobbles, they stop, discuss it and move two blocks lower. Their different jobs help the tower stand.
Cooperation is not everyone doing the same thing
A child may think cooperation means copying the same action, because that is easy to see. In fact, useful cooperation can include different jobs, ideas or abilities, as long as people listen and connect their efforts.
Cooperation in daily life
We cooperate when we carry a big box together, cook a meal or tidy a room with someone else. At home or in a park, saying what you can do and listening to the plan makes cooperation work.
