Weather is what the air is like now or today: sunny, rainy, windy, cloudy, hot or cold. It can be different in two places at the same time.
Weather can differ
Weather describes what we can notice outside at a particular time. The sky may be sunny here while clouds cover another place, or rain may fall in one town and not the next. Weather belongs to a place and a time together.
Why watch the weather?
People watch the weather because it changes what is safe and comfortable to do. Rain may make a path slippery, strong wind may move branches, and cold air means we need warmer clothes. Knowing the weather helps us choose plans and prepare for a place.
Packing for two places
A forecast says the seaside will be windy and rainy, while the garden will be dry and warm. For the seaside, choose a coat and waterproof shoes. For the garden, choose a sun hat and light clothes. The place changes what will be useful.
Today is not every day
It is reasonable to think that a place always has the weather we see today. But weather can change from morning to afternoon, and from one day to the next. A sunny day does not prove that the place is always sunny; it tells us about that time.
Weather and daily choices
Weather forecasts help people decide whether to walk, play outside, hang clothes out or carry an umbrella. Farmers watch rain and warmth when caring for plants. Travellers check the weather at their destination so they can bring suitable clothes and equipment.
