More than one way to use a tool
Accessibility means designing technology so people with different abilities can use it. A video may offer captions, an image may include a description, and a button may work with a keyboard as well as a mouse. The goal is not a special version for a few people, but fewer unnecessary barriers for everyone.
The problem it solves
Many digital tools are built around an imaginary user who sees, hears, moves, reads, and concentrates in one particular way. That design can lock real people out of schoolwork, information, or communication. Accessibility grew from the need for equal participation, not from making technology less ambitious.
Making a button usable
Suppose a website has a blue button labelled Send. First, give it a clear text label, not only a picture. Next, make the label readable against the background and ensure the Tab key can reach it. Finally, test it with a screen reader and without a mouse. Each step removes a different possible barrier.
Accessibility is not only for blind people
A common mistake is to reduce accessibility to screen readers or permanent disabilities. That is reasonable because those tools are important and easy to name, but access needs can also come from a broken arm, bright sunlight, noisy surroundings, dyslexia, or a new language. Good design considers changing situations as well as different people.
Where it appears
You meet accessibility in captions on videos, voice control, readable colour choices, ramps for touchscreens, and websites that work without a mouse. Libraries, transport systems, games, phones, and public services all depend on these choices. Accessible design often helps everyone: captions are useful in a noisy room, not only for someone who cannot hear.
