A computer can make a small model of a real place, object, or event and let you try things safely. The model is useful because it keeps some important parts, not because it is the real thing.
A safe pretend world
A simulation uses a computer model to act like something real. A model aeroplane can show how controls work; a traffic model can show cars moving through streets. You can change one part and see what happens without breaking a real plane or stopping real traffic. It is a thoughtful pretend version, not a magical copy.
Why make a model?
Real experiments can be costly, dangerous, slow, or impossible to repeat. A simulation gives you a place to practise and ask “what if?” without those risks. It solves the problem of learning about a system before using the real one. Its answers are useful only when the model leaves out the right details and includes the important ones.
A rainy-road model
A road simulation starts with 10 cars and one lane. At first, each car moves 2 spaces every turn, so after 3 turns it has moved 6 spaces. You switch on rain, and the model changes the speed to 1 space per turn; after 3 turns, a car has moved 3 spaces. The simulation helps you compare conditions, but it is not a promise about every real road.
The model is not the world
A moving picture can feel so convincing that you may treat its result as certain. That is reasonable: the model follows rules and shows a clear outcome. But it may leave out wind, bumps, people, or many other details. A simulation tells you what happens in its model, not automatically what must happen in real life.
Models you can use
You use simulations in some building games, driving practice, and science activities. A weather display is also based on a model: it combines measurements and rules to estimate what may happen. These tools are useful for trying ideas, but you still need real observations when the real world matters.
