Naming a child — Ethics Table · Free Press
A boy from the invented school was caught writing on the walls. The Gazette has his name and photo. Help Nes decide what to publish.
Your task
Make the fairest choices.
- Journalists take extra care with children: a story online can follow a child for years.
- Invented newsrooms and stories to learn from, not real news. Before sharing anything about real people, ask a trusted adult.
- Never share private details of anyone. Nothing about you is collected.
Score
- How news works — You understood how this part of journalism works.
- Truth & accuracy — You checked the facts before telling them.
- Fair & kind — You were fair to the people in the story.
In real life
Real world: Portugal's Código Deontológico do Jornalista says journalists should not identify minors in situations that could harm them, and many codes worldwide say the same.
