The Space Race

Objects launched into space by each country, added up, from 1957 to 2025

Each bar adds up every satellite, probe, lander, crewed spacecraft and space-station part a country has sent into orbit or beyond.
It is a running total, so a bar can only grow. The first object, Sputnik 1, was launched in 1957; launches by the Soviet Union are counted under Russia in this data.
Watch the very end: thousands of small internet satellites launched in recent years make one bar shoot ahead.
