How Many People Are Online?
People using the Internet in each country, from 1990 to 2024
What can we learn?
- In 1990 about two million people in the United States were online, and the Web as we know it had only just been invented.
- China passed the United States in 2008 and now has about 1.3 billion users. India is second, with more than 900 million.
- A country with many people can have many users even if only part of its people are online. Compare with “The Internet Arrives”, which shows the share of people instead.
