Who Has the Most Forest?
Forest area of each country, from 1990 to 2025
What can we learn?
- A forest is land covered by trees. One hectare is about one and a half football pitches, so Russia's forests cover hundreds of millions of them.
- Forests soak up carbon dioxide, give a home to a huge share of the animals and plants that live on land, and keep soil and rivers healthy.
- Watch Brazil: its forest shrinks over these years while Russia, Canada, the United States and China hold steady or grow. Trees can be planted again, but a young forest needs decades to become an old one.
