Where Does Chocolate Come From?
Cocoa beans grown by each country, from 1961 to 2024
What can we learn?
- Chocolate is made from the beans of the cacao tree, which only grows in warm, rainy places close to the Equator.
- Most of the world's cocoa comes from West Africa, while many of the countries that eat the most chocolate cannot grow it at all.
- A tonne is 1,000 kilograms, so one tonne of beans is enough for tens of thousands of chocolate bars.
